Budget-friendly tip for Healthy Eating

If you live in a town/city with a Kroger store nearby, then this could be extremely beneficial for you! I have actually found that as a whole, it is cheaper to do our shopping at Kroger due to their many sales and markdowns. Many people are just unaware of "how" to shop there.
Well, since our third child was born and our two young boys are now eating as much as we do for a meal, I am trying to be more creative with our grocery spending, yet still trying to maintain our healthy living.
So, if you can hit Kroger in the early morning hours (ranging from about 6:30am to 8:30 am), they do major produce markdowns! They bag any and all produce that is not considered "fresh" (which only means that it is not the most fresh to be had there). They sell you the bag. For example, I recently bought a bad of fresh zucchini (5 of them) for .99 cents!!! That is a deal! I also got a large bag of potatoes for 1.99, a bag of 3 yellow bell peppers for 1.19, etc..... Now sometimes, some of the produce marked down is on it's way down, but not so much that it cannot be sliced, blanched and frozen for use in baking meals.
Also, Kroger often marks their meat down. I recently purchased (with the help of a friend) 1 1b pkgs of ground turkey meat for 1.29 a pkg!! That is about a $3-4 mark down! They were purchased on the 16th and the "use or freeze by" date was the 18th...so I used one for the recipe listed and froze the others.
And last, but not least, check out their mark down shelf in the bakery section. They often have delicious whole grain french and artisan loaves marked down from $3-4 to a whopping .99 cents! I buy these and freeze them as well to serve with meals.

Check it out- they are always having 10 for $10 sales as well on top of these markdowns! I also learned recently that they automatically double all coupons up to .60 cents which means you can get up to $1.20 off. I am learning about all of this couponing stuff!

Happy Shopping and Baking!
